SAP launches embedded payments service in Cloud ERP

SAP launches embedded payments service in Cloud ERP - launches embedded
The service, powered by Tereina, an SAP subsidiary, automatically initiates payments when invoices become due and records the transaction in the same workflow.

SAP Pay, a new payments service announced Tuesday, expands the software maker’s finance-automation suite and is built directly into SAP Cloud ERP. The offering aims to let companies trigger and reconcile supplier payments without leaving their core ERP system.

Embedded payment execution

The service, powered by Tereina, an SAP subsidiary, automatically initiates payments when invoices become due and records the transaction in the same workflow. SAP says this reduces manual bank-file handling and cuts reliance on external processors.

“This will basically give our customers access to a wide variety of payment methods, whether it’s old-fashioned bank transfers or stablecoin transactions,” said David Imbert, head of finance product marketing at SAP. He called the move a “new and strategic space” for the company.

It supports electronic funds transfers, automated clearing house payments, wires, checks and stablecoin-based settlement for cross-border deals. The service is generally available in the United States and the United Kingdom, and a global distributor of networking equipment has already adopted it for supplier and treasury payments.

ERP platforms become payment hubs

A July white paper from the U.S. Faster Payments Council notes that ERP systems are evolving into “payment command centers” as instant payments, treasury functions and financial automation enter daily workflows. Embedding payments can give CFOs clearer cash visibility and help optimize working capital.

The paper also warns that instant, often irrevocable payments raise risk. Companies may need stronger fraud controls, authentication frameworks and stop-payment protocols. Oracle and Microsoft Trends are cited as other ERP vendors integrating payment capabilities directly into enterprise processes.

AI assistants launch alongside

At the same event the company unveiled a set of AI assistants designed to automate finance tasks. A pricing assistant helps commercial teams adjust prices to meet revenue goals, while a disclosure assistant automates parts of financial reporting.

Early-adopter programs for these tools are slated for the first quarter of 2027. The company said it will add specialized AI agents for financial close, planning, treasury, billing, tax and receivables management.

An SAP spokesperson emphasized that embedding payment execution, reconciliation, controls and auditability into the same workflow distinguishes the service from other solutions. The firm expects the offering to simplify supplier payments and improve audit trails for its enterprise customers.
